Students from College of Chemistry & Materials Engineering joined the online forum attended by academicians working on the journal of Carbon Energy

Release time: 2020年05月26日 14:57

To enrich the students' understanding of carbon energy and expand their knowledge, two academicians were invited to attend the online forum and students from College of Chemistry & Materials Engineering joined this event.

At 9:30 on May 26th, the first session of the forum "Carbon Energy" was launched online. Academician Cheng Huiming and Academician Chen Zhongwei, the advisory editors of Carbon Energy, were invited by Professor Wang Shun, the editor-in-chief to attend this forum.

The students showed great interest in the reports by two academicians, and highly praised this event. Below is their feedback.

Chen:

I think carbon energy plays a big role in our life. In general, the development of carbon energy benefits the country and the people. In this way, the number of companies that disregard environmental pollution and emit large amounts of greenhouse gases can be reduced, and those who have a sense of social responsibility can benefit from reducing carbon emissions through technological upgrades. At the same time, the development of carbon energy is also of great significance to clean energy. It will enhance society's enthusiasm for clean power, promote the proportion of clean energy power generation, and finally realize the full replacement of traditional energy by clean energy. Therefore, I have benefited a lot from today's forum.

Hu:

I have been doing experiments with my supervisor, but I didn't know much about some basic and necessary theories. The development of low-cost, high-energy-density, safe, and long-life rechargeable batteries is essential for the commercialization of smart grids, electric vehicles, and stable power sources. Compared with traditional lithium-ion battery technology, zinc-air battery is considered to be a potential next-generation electrochemical energy technology. Academician Chen Zhongwei’s report is titled "The Theory and Application of Rechargeable Zinc-Air Batteries". He mainly talked about how to improve the activity and lifetime of zinc-air batteries through the design and construction of nanomaterials, and how to understand the electrochemical behavior and structure evolution of nanomaterials when zinc-air battery is under operation. He also mentioned how to use the above research results to improve the practical value of zinc-air and broaden its application in practical fields such as flexible devices. I look forward to the future forums of this kind.

Li:

I am honored to be able to watch the online forum today. This lecture was presided over by Dean Wang Shun. The content of Academician Cheng's lecture was very substantial. He introduced the preparation methods and knowledge of graphene such as green preparation of graphene oxide. Academician Chen Zhongwei's lecture was also very exciting, showing us the development of new batteries.

Jin:

The last Nobel Prize was awarded to researchers in the field of batteries which is very popular.  The two academicians shared their research results with us with a very professional academic attitude. It is true that I cannot understand all of their contents as I am an undergraduate student, but I listened carefullty. Academician Cheng Huiming used a bilingual slides to introduce various methods to prepare related two-dimensional materials (For example: MAGE) and Academician Chen Zhongwei shared with us the rechargeable zinc-air batteries. The two academicians really motivated us to keep exploring on the road of scientific research.
