Wenzhou University enters the ranking of Chinese university campus plants for the first time

Release time: 2020-05-29

China University Plant Alliance released the 2020 ranking of Chinese university campus plants. With 480 species at the South campus, Wenzhou University ranks 22nd in the list. It is the first time that our university has entered the Ranking. Among the 480 species, 13 are Chinese rare and endangered plants.

“We used to learn about plants in textbooks, but this time, through the campus plant survey we had a close look into the campus. We discovered that in the corners that no one noticed, there are also plants with their unique beauty. Recording them is a kind of protection for them.” Wang Danchou, a student studying biology said. "The plant diversity in the campus is important to the ecological environment, which helps to enhance the happiness and sense of belonging of the students on the university. The plant survey has enriched the discipline of ecology and made it more specific and visible.” Zhang Yonghua, who is responsible for the survey, hopes that more students can join the similar events in the future and protect the campus biodiversity.

The China University Plant Alliance was initiated by Zhejiang University in September 2017 under the support of the National Specimen Resource Sharing Platform of the Ministry of Science and Technology. As of May 20, 2020, it has 42 full members of colleges and universities and 68 pre-members, covering seven administrative regions across the country.
