Chinese New Year Concert held by Wenzhou University Symphony Orchestra

As the Chinese New Year is approaching, the 2021 New Year Concert was successfully held by Wenzhou University Symphony Orchestra. More than 700,000 people watched this concert online.

Like the concerts held in previous years, this large-scale symphony concert invited performers who were local. Professor Zou Yuefei, a well-known conductor in Wenzhou and Dean of the the School of Music, and Associate Professor Ye Xixi, the former dean of the School of Preschool Education jointly led the concert.

The concert was divided into the first half and the second half, with a rich repertoire and a variety of forms. There were Folk Songs and My Motherland with national characteristics, China's top ten classic symphony works Red Detachment of Women Suite, and John Strauss’s Cavalry March, Brahms’s The Fifth of Hungarian Dances, Bizet’s Carmen Overture, etc.

The Wenzhou University Symphony Orchestra was built in 2019. The main members, in the number of over 60, are teachers and students, graduates of the School of Music, and performers from Wenzhou Musicians Association. Since its establishment, it has played the important role in the opera "Five-Star Red Flag" and achieved great success. It was also invited to participate in the events including "Hundred Tour of Zhejiang Special Art Troupe in Wenzhou", "Wenzhou City celebrates the 70th anniversary of the founding of China" and "2020 Wenzhou New Year Concert.”

In recent years, Wenzhou University has championed “research, innovation, and performance” to fuel the cultural construction of Wenzhou. For example, in the 12th Art Week held in 2020, famous tenors such as Shi Yijie and more than ten famous masters in the fields of theory, piano, vocal music came to deliver academic lectures and concerts in the university. The university also established Tianrui Performing Arts Research Center with the Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and the Municipal Federation of Literary and Art, aiming to foster Wenzhou cultural brand and enhances the cultural diversity of the city.
