College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
The College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering offers 5 undergraduate programs in Mechanical Engineering (National First-Class), Industrial Engineering (National First-Class), Vehicle Engineering, Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering (International Students), with more than 1,100 on-campus undergraduates. The aim is to enhance the engineering ability of students propelled by various competitions and postgraduate entrance examination. With the concerted efforts of faculties and students, 40% graduates continued their study, and the number of awards of provincial and ministerial-level competitions averaged more than 20 annually.
There are 142 faculty members, including 101 full-time teachers (21 with senior titles and 36 with deputy senior titles). 56.4% of them possess senior titles, 94.8% have doctoral degrees, and 41.2% have overseas study and work experience. Among the faculty members, there are a dozen high-end talents such as academicians of the Malaysian Academy of Engineering, recipients of special allowances from the State Council, foreign experts, candidates for Zhejiang Provincial Talents Program and Zhejiang Provincial Outstanding Teachers.
The discipline of mechanical engineering has two postgraduate programs in Mechanical Engineering (academic pathway) and Machinery (professional pathway) supported by five research institutes, namely, intelligent manufacturing and robotics, mechatronic engineering, laser processing theory and equipment, equipment system dynamics and intelligent diagnosis and maintenance, and new energy and intelligent vehicles. The discipline was approved as a first-class discipline in Zhejiang Province, and rated B+ nationwide in 2022 by Times Higher Education. The general discipline of engineering it belongs to has entered the top 1% of the global ESI ranking. Under this discipline, there are seven provincial and ministerial-level platforms such as the International Science and Technology Cooperation Base of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory, and Zhejiang Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center. Three industrial research institutes have been built, namely, Wenzhou University Laser and Optoelectronic Intelligent Manufacturing Research Institute, Wenzhou University Pingyang Intelligent Manufacturing Research Institute, and Wenzhou University Cangnan Research Institute. The College and the local government jointly established two provincial industrial innovation service complexes. In recent years, the staff has undertaken 46 national-level research projects such as the key projects subsidized by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the key projects of inter-governmental international scientific and technological cooperation, and the projects under the national 863 high-tech development plan. They won 16 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards such as the first prize of Zhejiang Province Science and Technology Progress Award and China Patent Gold Award, published 556 SCI/EI papers, and possess 557 invention patents (including 201 patents for transformation or licensing). More than 560 projects were entrusted by companies. The accumulated research funds have reached more than 120 million yuan.
Considering the Belt and Road Initiative and the “Fourteenth Five-Year Plan” of the WZU, the College, which launched one of the first-batch English-teaching programs in the university, vigorously develops its global footprint. Relying on the scientific and technological cooperation base authorized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, it continuously promotes the internationalization of talent training and discipline development, and the diversity of teaching staff. It has established close cooperative relations with overseas research institutes and institutions of higher learning in Japan, Germany, Singapore, South Korea, Russia, etc.
