School of Marxism
The School of Marxism, established in 2011, is one of the first batch of key Marxist colleges in the province. Its history could date back to the Political Department built in 1978 under Wenzhou Normal College (renamed the Department of Political Education in 1985). It began to recruit undergraduate students in ideological and political education in 1987, and postgraduate students in 2006. The School undertakes the teaching and research of ideological and political theories for the whole undergraduates and postgraduates in the university, and trains professionals in ideological and political education and research on Marxist theories.
The discipline of Marxist Theory is a provincial first-class discipline, the discipline of Research on Sinicization of Marxism is a provincial key discipline, and the program of Ideological and Political Education is a national first-class undergraduate program. We offer five postgraduate programs in Basic Principles of Marxism, Research on Sinicization of Marxism, Ideological and Political Education, Research on Basic Issues in Chinese Modern History, and Subject Teaching (ideological and political education), and jointly train doctoral students with Hainan Normal University, Shandong University, etc.
The School has the an excellent teaching and research team accredited by the Ministry of Education, the “BRI Country and Regional Research Center” (Italian Research Center) supported by the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, Zhejiang Provincial Research Center for the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics (Wenzhou University Research Base), Zhejiang Provincial Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era (Wenzhou University Research Base), Zhejiang Provincial Teaching Team of “Introduction to Mao Zedong Thought and Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics”, Zhuo Gaosheng National Teaching Studio, Sun Bangjin Provincial Teaching Studio, etc. It has more than ten provincial quality courses, first-class courses, and virtual simulation experimental teaching projects. Due to its excellent teaching and research advantages and talent training systems, the School plays an increasingly prominent role in serving the local development and the society.
There are 61 teachers, including 14 professors, 24 associate professors, 39 with doctoral degrees, 22 with the qualification to supervise postgraduate students and 5 with the qualification to supervise doctoral students. The School has pooled 1 candidate for the National Talents Program, 3 influential (nominated) figures in the ideological and political theory courses among national colleges and universities, and 1 national excellent young and middle-aged teacher for ideological and political theory teaching, 3 national model teacher, 3 young and middle-aged academic leaders in Zhejiang Province, 3 leading talents in provincial universities, 5 candidates for Zhejiang Provincial 151 Talent Program, and 4 provincial social science scholars , 8 candidates for Wenzhou Municipal 551 Talent Program, 4 municipal talents in theoretical studies. Several teachers won honorary titles such as national and provincial outstanding teachers, and hold important positions in national, provincial and municipal societies with great academic and social influence.
