The College of Mathematics and Physics is a teaching and research-oriented college with a long history of education. It has three first-level disciplines of mathematics, physics, and applied statistics, and offers postgraduate programs in Mathematics, Physics, Applied Statistics and Subject Teaching (mathematics/ physics). The College offers four undergraduate programs in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (teacher training), Physics (teacher training), Applied Statistics, and Information and Computing Science. The College consists of three departments of mathematics, physics, statistics and information science, one experimental center and seven research institutes. It is home to the Zhejiang Provincial Demonstration Center for Physical Experiment Teaching and the Wenzhou Workstation of Satellite Tri-frequency Beacon under China Earthquake Administration.

The program in physics is a national characteristic program, mathematics and applied mathematics is the characteristic program of the provincial “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan”, applied statistics is the key program of “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” of WZU, and information and computing science is the brand program of WZU. Mathematics and applied mathematics is the national first-class undergraduate program, and physics is the provincial first-class undergraduate program.

The College has a strong faculty with 106 members, including 83 full-time teachers. 47 (56%) of them have senior and deputy senior titles (23 with senior titles). 68 of them hold doctoral degrees, accounting for 81%. Academician Chen Shuxing also joined the College as an adjunct professor. The College has one excellent teaching team in Zhejiang Province, with over 50 elites including provincial high-level talents, candidates for Zhejiang Provincial 151 Talent Program, Provincial leading talents in colleges and universities, Provincial young and middle-aged academic leaders, candidates for Wenzhou 580 Overseas Elite Introduction Initiative, Wenzhou municipal innovative talents, etc. There are 1,074 full-time undergraduate students and 208 postgraduate students.

We are proud of our teaching and research atmosphere. In the past five years, the staff carried out 28 projects subsidized by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and 20 provincial and ministerial-level teaching and research projects. The average annual funding for various projects exceeded 2.6 million yuan. More than 400 papers have been published, and over 250 of them have been SCI-indexed.

We pay special attention to students’ mastery of professional knowledge and the cultivation of professional skills and practical ability. The students’ works won the first prize in the National “Challenge Cup” University Student Extracurricular Science and Technology Works Competition, the Gold Award in the National “Challenge Cup” University Student Entrepreneurship Competition, the first prize in the National Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, the first prize in the National Postgraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, the Bronze Award in the National “Internet +” University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the first prize in Zhejiang Normal Student Teaching Skills Competition, the first prize in Zhejiang Higher Mathematics Competition, etc. In the past three years, the students have won more than 150 awards at various national and provincial competitions.
