College of Fine Arts and Design
The College of Fine Arts and Design, whose predecessors include the Fine Arts Department established in 1984 under Wenzhou Normal College, and the Fashion Art Design Department established in 1988 under the former Wenzhou University, is one of the earliest colleges providing the training in art, design, and apparel in China. The College has more than 1,100 full-time undergraduate students and 100 postgraduate students taught and supervised by over 90 faculty members including more than 70 full-time teachers. Among them, there are 11 professors, 26 associate professors, and 15 with doctoral degrees. The College has become a high-level art institute in the nation that features the training in pure art and design application.
Disciplines and research
The College has four postgraduate programs in Art (fine arts/art design), Design, Curriculum and Teaching Theory (art) and Subject Teaching (art). The discipline of Chinese painting is rated a key discipline in Zhejiang Province, and the disciplines of art and design are the key disciplines at the university level. Our faculty undertook 9 national-level projects and 16 provincial and ministerial-level projects.
Program development
The College offers six undergraduate programs in fine arts, calligraphy, visual communication design, environmental design, apparel and apparel design, and apparel design and engineering. The program of fine arts has the longest history in the College and is rated as a national B-level program (ranks top 20%-50% nationwide by ShanghaiRanking). Calligraphy, a newly launched program, is the only undergraduate program alike in southern Zhejiang and northern Fujian. Visual communication design and environmental design are national A-level programs (ranks top 2%-10% nationwide by ShanghaiRanking). Apparel and apparel design is a national first-class undergraduate program (A-level), a characteristic and first-class provincial program, and a key program in Wenzhou City. Apparel design and engineering was selected as the pilot program under the Excellent Engineering Plan by the Ministry of Education. It is a first-class and characteristic undergraduate program in Zhejiang Province and is rated B+ nationwide. Two courses are recognized as national excellent courses, and 7 courses are provincial first-class courses.
Local cooperation
The College is home to three university-level research institutes, namely, the Institute of Art Creation, the Institute of Creative Design, and the Institute of Fashion Innovation. We established more than 10 university-enterprise joint R&D centers by collaborating with local well-known enterprises, and worked with the local government for many years to hold the “Mayor’s Cup” industrial design competition and other series of activities, making positive contributions to the local economy.
International cooperation
The College has built exchange student programs with Istituto Europeo di Design, Istituto Marangoni, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti di MILANO, Tatung University, and other universities in South Korea and Thailand. We regularly organize design camps to enhance the ties with those partners.

WZU Education Majors Achieve Sixth Place Nationwide in the 9th "Tian Jiabing Cup" National Teaching Skills Competition From December 29th to 31st, the finals of the 9th "Tian Jiabing Cup" National Teaching Skills Competition for education majors were held at Zhejiang Normal University.
