Recently, A.A. Speransky, Vice President of Russian Academy of Engineering (RAE), sent a congratulatory letter to Professor Xue Wei on his election as a foreign academician of RAE. This decision was made after the strict process of form review, material review, conference defense, voting of the Presidium, and based on Professor Xue Wei’s outstanding contributions to leading technological innovation and promoting industrial development in the field of laser processing. According to the letter, it is hoped that Professor Xue Wei can achieve more scientific and technological innovations and collaboration aimed at the sustainable development in China and Russia.

Founded in 1990, Russian Academy of Engineering is a scientific institution with important academic influence across the globe and an All-Russian public organization. It used to be the Soviet Academy of Engineering, and was later joined by the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Ministry of Engineering, the Ministry of National Defense, the Aerospace Administration and other departments before becoming a cross industry institution. There are more than 1500 academicians, including over 100 foreign ones. Foreign academicians are elected by the Presidium of RAE from scientists who have made significant achievements in science, technology and other fields. Song Jian, Xu Kuandi, the former presidents of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Li Xiaohong, the current president are also the foreign academicians of RAE.
