Gathering Wisdom for a New Chapter: The 21st (2022) China Financial Engineering Annual Conference and Academic Conference of Financial Innovation and Common Prosperity held in WZU

From November 11th to 13th, the 21st (2022) China Financial Engineering Annual Conference and Academic Conference of Financial Innovation and Common Prosperity was held in WZU. This event was jointly sponsored by the China Financial Engineering Annual Conference and Wenzhou University, organized by Business School of WZU, Wenzhou People Economic Research Center (a key research base for humanities and social sciences in Zhejiang Province), Wenzhou Financial Research Institute, Yangtze River Delta Integration Research Center (a key research base of social sciences in Wenzhou).

In accordance with the requirements of pandemic prevention and control, this event also adopted online means. The forum was composed of two keynote speeches and 16 sub forums. The total number of people watching the live broadcast exceeded 20,000. Among 363 Chinese and English papers received, 158 were selected for the sub forums, covering hot issues such as financial innovation, common prosperity, digital finance, green finance, etc.

On the evening of November 11th, the council meeting of the 21st China Financial Engineering Annual Conference was held and attended by nearly 60 council members from various institutions.

On the morning of November 12th, the 21st China Financial Engineering Annual Conference opened. The opening ceremony was moderated by Professor Hu Zhenhua, dean of the Business School, WZU.

Professor Pan Yuju, vice president of WZU, delivered a speech on behalf of the host. He pointed out that WZU fully implemented the instructions from General Secretary Xi Jinping, ‘We must attach great importance to education and talent work, and in particular, well operate Wenzhou University and other institutions of higher learning.’ by driving high quality development and characteristic advance. He summarized the experience of the financial reform in Wenzhou in the past decade. Wenzhou won the battle against financial risks with its pioneering exploration and practice, which provided valuable experience for other regions of the country. He emphasized that this annual meeting would produce new ideas and expand new ways for the future academic research and practical application of financial engineering, and provide suggestions for deepening the financial reform in Wenzhou.

Professor Wang Jinzhong from the School of Finance, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics delivered a speech on behalf of the Organizing Committee of the China Financial Engineering Annual Conference. As a witness and participant of the historical moment of financial engineering, he reviewed the development of this discipline from scratch in the past 20 years. He pointed out that the academic system of financial engineering was constantly improving, many talents had been cultivated, and financial engineering and modern information technology were deeply integrated.

Professor Xie Ping, the former deputy general manager of China Investment Corporation, the first general manager of ZHJ Group, and the first president of Wenzhou Financial Research Institute, delivered a report entitled “Supervision of financial business on large Internet platforms.” Professor Wu Xiaoqiu, the former vice president of Renmin University of China and Changjiang Scholar, delivered a report entitled “Chinese path to modernization and the role of finance.” Professor Ye Yonggang from Wuhan University gave a report entitled “Arbitrage map of financial engineering and its application in rural revitalization in China.” Professor Fan Conglai, the former assistant to president of Nanjing University and Changjiang Scholar, delivered a report entitled “Market effect of capital market opening.” Professor Shi Jianping, the former vice president of the Central University of Finance and Economics, delivered a report entitled “Key issues of green finance development to help achieve the goal of carbon peak and neutrality.” Professor Zhu Bo, the director of the Department of Financial Engineering of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, delivered a report entitled “Practice and exploration of the building VR-enabled classroom for teaching financial engineering.”

On the afternoon of November 12th, 16 sub forums were held and broadcast live, with the themes of digital financial innovation, digital finance and common prosperity, green finance, financial risk and innovation, inclusive finance, private finance and common prosperity. The forum witnessed heated discussions between participants with great exchanges of ideas. At the closing ceremony, the moderators of each sub forum made a summary.

This forum had an in-depth discussion on the significance of financial innovation to achieve common prosperity and would further promote the teaching and research of financial engineering, and its application in the local financial reform.
