Zhejiang News: The Chinese Language and Culture Exchange and Learning Center for Foreigners was established in Wenzhou University

On the morning of September 22nd, the unveiling ceremony of “Wenzhou Chinese Language and Chinese Culture Exchange and Learning Center for Foreigners” jointly established by Wenzhou Foreign Affairs Office and Wenzhou University was held in the College of International Education of Wenzhou University. Lei Wendong, director of the Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, Zhou Huaizhong, deputy director, Wang Shun, vice president of Wenzhou University, Ying Yonghong, member of the Party committee of Wenzhou-Kean University, and representatives of teachers and foreign students of Wenzhou University attended the ceremony. Director Lei Wendong and vice president Wang Shun jointly unveiled the “Wenzhou Chinese Language and Chinese Culture Exchange and Learning Center for Foreigners”. 

During the ceremony, leaders of the Municipal Foreign Affairs Office and Wenzhou University delivered speeches successively. Wang Shun, vice president of Wenzhou University, said that as the only comprehensive teaching and research university in southern Zhejiang, Northern Fujian and Eastern Jiangxi, Wenzhou University had a good foundation for international school running and rich experience in Chinese education. From now on, Wenzhou University would give full play to its own advantages, work with Wenzhou Foreign Affairs Office to fully support the construction of Wenzhou Chinese Language and Chinese Culture Exchange and Learning Center for Foreigners, strive to promote the improvement of Chinese language level and cultural identity of foreign nationals in Wenzhou, and help build Wenzhou into an open benchmark city. 

Lei Wendong, director of the Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, points out that the Municipal Foreign Affairs Office collaborated with Wenzhou University to jointly build Wenzhou Chinese Language and Chinese Culture Exchange and Learning Center for Foreigners. Providing a platform for foreigners in Wenzhou to learn Chinese language and culture contributes to the cultivation of more foreigners who understand and are friendly to China as well as enhancing the soft power of international culture and the influence of Chinese culture. It is a concrete measure for our city to strengthen and improve the construction of international communication capacity, further enhance the service for foreigners in Wenzhou, and promote the high-quality development of wenzhou’s opening-up during the 14th Five-year Plan period. The municipal Foreign Affairs Office and the municipal Friendship Association will make full use of the advantages of foreign affairs resources to form a joint force with experts and scholars of Wenzhou University to promote the learning center to become an important base and platform for foreigners in Wenzhou to learn Chinese culture, integrate into Wenzhou and boost international cooperation and exchange.

Before the opening ceremony, Professor Ye Miao, dean of College of International Education of Wenzhou University, introduced the work and achievements of Wenzhou University in teaching Chinese as a foreign language and international communication of Chinese culture; Wenzhou University and Wenzhou-Kean University signed the Cooperation Agreement on Chinese Culture Programs for International Students and Foreign Teachers.

It is reported that the cooperation content of Wenzhou Chinese language and Chinese Culture Exchange Center for foreigners includes holding “Understand Chinese-Experience China” Chinese language and Chinese culture public welfare training class, holding various theme speeches or competitions. The first Chinese language and Chinese culture public welfare training class of “Understand Chinese-Experience China” was launched on September 22, with Chinese teaching and cultural experience as the main model, so as to continuously promote the improvement of the Chinese language level and cultural experience of foreign nationals in Wenzhou, and further promote cultural communication with other countries.
