Prof. Jingling SHEN from College of Life and Environmental Science Publishes Academic Paper in Nature Communications

Release time: 2023年10月17日 08:32

Recently, Professor Jingling SHEN from the College of Life and Environmental Science, in collaboration with Academician Xiaokun LI from Wenzhou Medical University, published a research paper online in Nature Communications titled "FGF18 alleviates hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury via the USP16-mediated KEAP1/Nrf2 signaling pathway in male mice". The study discovered that FGF18 reduces oxidative stress and inflammation levels, decreasing apoptosis in liver cells. Thus, targeting the FGF18/USP16/KEAP1 signaling pathway could serve as a new clinical strategy to improve hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury and related pathological processes. The corresponding authors of this paper are Academician Xiaokun LI from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Wenzhou Medical University, Researcher Weitao CONG, and Professor Jingling SHEN from the College of Life and Environmental Science at Wenzhou University.

In April of this year, Professor Jingling SHEN collaborated with Academician Xiaokun LI’s team and co-first authored a research paper titled "Fibroblast growth factor 18 alleviates stress-induced pathological cardiac hypertrophy in male mice" in Nature Communications. This paper elaborated on the role of FGF18 and its related mechanisms in the process of pathological myocardial hypertrophy. It clarified that FGF18 improves oxidative stress by activating FYN in myocardial cells, providing new research directions and targets for the treatment of pathological myocardial hypertrophy.

Through the results of these two papers, the crucial role and mechanisms of Fibroblast Growth Factor 18 in disease occurrence have been revealed. This provides potential drug targets for treating hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury and myocardial diseases
