The Law School, formerly known as the School of Law and Politics, is one of the schools with the longest history in Wenzhou University. The School offers three undergraduate programs in Law, Administration, and International Economics and Trade Rules, as well as postgraduate programs in law and public administration (MPA). The program of law is rated as the national first-class undergraduate program, the provincial first-class undergraduate program, the characteristic program of the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” and the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” of Zhejiang Province, the key program of Wenzhou City, and the advantageous program of the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” of WZU. The discipline of law, as a provincial first-class discipline, is preparing to gain the qualification to grant the doctoral degree. Environment and resource protection law is a key discipline of Wenzhou City. The discipline of law ranked 81st in 2021 Best Chinese Subjects Ranking by ShanghaiRanking, and ranked in the top 30% in 2019 by Chinese Alumni Network.

The School has more than 70 faculty members, and the proportion of teachers with doctoral degrees exceeds 90%. Mr. Chen Guangzhong, the pioneer and important founder of criminal procedure law in China, is employed as the honorary dean. The School has pooled a group of well-known scholars, including the winners of the national top ten young and middle-aged jurists nomination awards, provincial middle-aged academic leaders, provincial and municipal prominent educators, etc.

There are more than 1,200 undergraduate, postgraduate and international students. Our passing rate of the national unified legal professional qualification examination ranks among the best in the country. The School is one of the main supporting organs of the “Wenzhou People Economic Research Center”, a key research base of philosophy and social sciences in Zhejiang Province. It has built key research bases of Wenzhou City philosophy and social sciences including “Regional Legal Research Center” and “Grassroots Governance Modernization Research Center.” It is the China branch of the Environmental Law School of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). In recent years, the staff have undertaken 2 major projects and 3 key projects subsidized by the National Social Science Fund, as well as a group of general, and provincial and ministerial-level projects subsidized by the National Social Science Fund. They won 2 first prizes of the Provincial Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award, and 1 second prize of the Law Textbook and Outstanding Research Achievement Award by the Ministry of Justice.

Nearly 6,000 graduates are contributing to the development of China. In the new historical period of comprehensively deepening reform and promoting the rule of law, the Law School adheres to the motto of “Starting from morality, sticking to law, and seeking truth”, and is committed to building itself into a first-class, nationally renowned training base to enhance the rule of law and public management.
