The University is Approved to Set Up Five Additional Undergraduate Programs

Recently the Ministry of Education released the Notice on the Announcement of Filing and Approving Undergraduate Programs in Regular Higher Education Providers in 2021 (JGH [2021] No.14 Notice). The five programs applied by the University-international economic and trade rules, recreational sports, integrated circuit design and integrated systems, urban underground space engineering and calligraphy-have been successfully approved, among which the international economic and trade rules, and urban underground space engineering are the first two undergraduate programs in Zhejiang Province.

The application for the new programs is an important decision made and action taken by the University to meet the local industrial needs, to take full advantage of our teaching characteristics and strengths, and to achieve sustainable optimization of professional development. The study of international economic and trade rules is facing the challenges of a world economic system that is becoming more and more open and increasingly complicated, the establishment of trading ports and free trade zones, and the training of highly-qualified international law experts specialized in foreign affairs; the recreational sports study shall aim to contribute to promoting development of local health industry by meeting local needs and coordinating the co-development of industry, education and research; the integrated circuit design and integrated systems program shall take initiatives to meet the demand for new technologies, new industries and new economic development needs so as to relieve the pressure caused by the lack of personnel required for the development of frontline science and technology departments; urban underground space engineering program shall address the concerns of shortage of land, conflicts between people and land, and provide intellectual support for the full and intensive use of underground space and resources; calligraphy program shall take advantage of the local cultures and teaching resources as a result of Wenzhou being the “home to Chinese calligraphers” and aim to train senior professionals specialized in calligraphical creation, education and research in culture, art and related industries.

In recent years, Wenzhou University has been actively working on answering the call of the Ministry of Education for creating top quality programs and establishing 10,000 national and provincial undergraduate study sites. We are constantly deepening the “new science and technology” construction, promoting “new arts” development, continually strengthening professional development in order to provide strong man power force to support local social and economic development. Currently we offer 51 bachelor programs and 15 of them have been listed as top quality undergraduate programs in China and 15 programs have been listed as top quality bachelor undergraduate programs in Zhejiang Province.
