China Youth Daily: The Second Generation Cyanobacterial Bloom Treatment Equipment of Wenzhou University is Put into Water for Trial

Release time: 2022-07-20

Today the second generation of physical jetting treatment device for cyanobacterial bloom independently developed by Wenzhou University of Zhejiang Province-“Bisheng II” was put into water for trial in Wenzhou. A number of academicians, experts and professors from Japan, Canada and over 10 higher education institutes in China participated in the trial ceremony online and offline. Reporters at the scene saw that the device, through breaking up the cyanobacteria population by spraying and jetting, is able to re-enter the ecological food chain and treat cyanobacterial bloom in an ecological way.

Wenzhou University’s Bisheng II” is developed by the team led by Min Zhao and Qinning Jing in Wenzhou University by adopting the horizontal physical jetting and dispersion technique in Japan. Its development aims to target the high density of cyanobacteria, large water area, long duration in Chinese lakes and water reservoirs, and remarkable biodiversity in Japan. This device is a great success after repeated test and experiments and continuous optimization and improvement by enhancing incoming water flow, improving water inflow method and water pressure, upgrading the impact plate structure, as well as increasing the cyanobacterial treatment capacity of the device.

This equipment adopts the parallel design in creating the equipment operation system. The ship hull is equipped with automatic control device, video surveillance and smart instrument and data monitoring system, which is easy to operate on and very suitable for the ecological treatment of cyanobacterial blooms in urban rivers and small to medium-sized eutrophicated lakes and reservoirs. The treatment is achieved by breaking up the cyanobacteria population through jet impacting and weakening the competitiveness of cyanobacteria so that it can be eaten by zooplankton, re-enter the ecological food chain, and eventually be treated in an ecological way.

The team has been involved in the study of cyanobacterial bloom treatment since the launch of the first “Bisheng I” device in October 2018, which is applicable to address the characteristics of cyanobacterial blooms  of large lakes in China.
