East Asia Cultural City-Wenzhou, Japan and Korea Thinktank Makes Its home at Wenzhou University

    According to China News (reporter Libin Su and correspondent Zhengtao Wu), in the morning on 26 January, the “2022 Cultural City of East Asia•China Wenzhou Year” News Release and Founding Ceremony of Establishment of Wenzhou Promotion and Exchange Organization was held at the Wenzhou Overseas Communication Center. Deputy Director of Department of Culture and Tourism of Zhejiang Province, party leadership member and first-class inspector Peng Xu and Deputy Mayor of Wenzhou Municipal People’s Government Shaoguang Lou attended the event; Dean of School of Foreign Languages and Deputy Vice Chancellor of Wenzhou University Hong Yang also participated in this event. This event was hosted by the Deputy Secretary-general of Wenzhou Municipal People’s Government Guangfu Xiang.

    Peng Xu made the welcoming speech. He hopes that Wenzhou will take advantage of this 2022 East Asia Cultural City Wenzhou Year event to showcase Ouyue culture, present colorful and interesting stories about Wenzhou to enhance China’s image, display the charisma of Zhejiang Province, join hands with other cultural cities in East Asia region and open to the world to contribute to the promotion of a new round of cultural exchange activities and the co-development of cultural prosperity and civilization sharing.

    Shaoguang Lou made a brief introduction about the “2022 Cultural City of East Asia•China Wenzhou Year” event. He said that Wenzhou will strengthen cultural exchange and tourism cooperation with Japan and Korea as well as extend communication on civilization between Wenzhou and the entire Asia in order to help Wenzhou to learn more about the history of world culture, build Wenzhou into a well-deserved capital of Asian culture, bring prosperity to the cultural and tourism development in East Asia area, promote the cultural exchange across the world, and make contribution to the establishment of a community to be shared by mankind.

    In order to make full use of Wenzhou’s strengths in opening to the world, promote the progress of “2022 Cultural City of East Asia•China Wenzhou Year” event, improve international cultural exchange represented by the East Asia Cultural City program, enhance the research and understanding about Japan, Korea, ASEAN countries, Europe and other countries and regions in the world, School of Foreign Languages of Wenzhou University and Culture, Radio, Film and Tourism Bureau of Wenzhou City jointly established “East Asia Cultural City-Wenzhou, Japan and Korea Specialized Thinktank” and unveiling ceremony was held at the scene. This thinktank is mainly comprised of senior Japanese and Korean language teachers from the School of Foreign Languages at Wenzhou University (all of them are returned Chinese that graduated from overseas higher education providers). In addition to the strong resources of Wenzhou University, we have also invited a large number of Chinese, Japanese and Korean cultural experts to join in the East Asia Cultural City-Wenzhou, Japan and Korea Thinktank who will continuously provide much-need support for the research and study of East Asian culture, organization and decision-making related to the Cultural City program, translation of multi-languages, and volunteering programs in the hope of demonstrating the charisma of Ouyue culture, telling amazing stories about China, and introducing Chinese culture to the whole world. The establishment of “East Asia Cultural City-Wenzhou, Japan and Korea Specialized Thinktank” will continue to bring the manpower and cultural resources in Wenzhou into full play and further facilitate the development of “2022 East Asia Cultural City”.

    Dean of School of Foreign Languages at Wenzhou University Miao Ye mentioned: “School of Foreign Languages at Wenzhou University will take advantage of this unveiling ceremony to continue to follow local policies and improve the training quality for foreign language professionals. Staff and students from the School of Foreign Languages of Wenzhou University will also continue to contribute to the development of a higher education institution with distinctive overseas features.
